Seoul SK players celebrate their 89-74 victory over Anyang Jeonggwanjang during the opening game of the 2023-2024 Jeonggwanjang Professional Basketball League between Anyang Jeonggwanjang and Seoul SK at Anyang Indoor Gymnasium on Oct. 21.
Seoul SK opened the official season of the Korean Basketball Organization with a win over Anyang Jungkwanjang, led by Jamil Warney's 46-point outburst.
SK won 89-74 away from home on Oct. 21 at Anyang Indoor Gymnasium in the 2023-24 Jeong Kwanjang Pro Basketball League.
SK, which lost to Jung Kwanjang (then KGC) in last season's championship game, avenged its loss in the opening game of the new season.
On the other hand, Jung Kwan-jang fought hard despite being weakened by the departure of their main players, but their lack of backbone cost them the game.
The two teams played a tight game from the first quarter. SK's dominance was expected as they had few power leaks, but Jung Kwan-jang stepped up. With Darryl Monroe, Bae Byeong-jun, and Kim Kyung-won playing well, the team ended the first quarter with a 22-19 lead over SK's team of Warney and Kim Sun-hyung.
In the second quarter, SK found their rhythm. AsiaQuarter recruit Gomez Del Riano and Warney scored eight points apiece, while Leon Williams chipped in with six points. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Oh scored five points, including a three-pointer. SK dominated the second quarter, 29-19, to take a 48-41 halftime lead.
SK struggled with Kwanjang's offense in the second half and allowed the lead to slip away. While Monroe was held to three points, Lens Abando led the offense with eight points, while Spellman's replacement, Duvan Maxwell, chipped in with six.
SK was led by Warney's 12 points, but the rest of the team struggled to score. Jung Kwan-jang, who scored 25 points in the third quarter, led SK to a two-point lead after being held to 19 points.
With the game on the line, SK took a 74-65 lead at the start of the fourth quarter with seven straight points from Warney. With the lead extended, SK didn't let up this time. Taking advantage of Chung's dull offense, Warney, Heo Il-young, and Kim Sun-hyung piled up points one after another and ended the game comfortably with a 15-point victory.
Meanwhile, Oh Se-geun, who left Chung Kwanjang for SK after the end of last season, played 24 minutes and 10 seconds, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds.
At the same time in Changwon, visiting Suwon KT recorded their first win of the season with a 71-66 victory over home team Changwon LG.
Ha Yoon-ki led the way for KT with 20 points and five rebounds despite playing through an ankle injury. Foreign player Paris Bass chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. 19가이드03
