Shin Shin-seo 9 and Park Jung-hwan 9 compete in the quarterfinals of the men's individual go competition at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at Qiyuan Chess Hall in Hangzhou, China on Sept. 27.
South Korea's top-ranked Shin Shin-seo 9 has reached the semifinals of the men's individual go event at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Shin Shin-seo 9 defeated Chinese Taipei's Lai Zhun-fu 8 in 279 moves in the quarterfinals of the men's individual go event at the Qiyuan Chess Hall in Hangzhou, China on Sept. 27.
With this victory, Shin Shin-seo 9th reached the semifinals after winning seven consecutive matches in the tournament, starting with a group stage victory over Yang Dingxin 9th (China).
Shin Shin-seo 9th will play Xu Hao-hong 9th (China) for a spot in the final at 10:30 am on the 28th. Xu Haohong advanced to the semifinals after defeating Korea's Park Jung-hwan in 215 moves with a black counterattack.
Shin holds a three-game head-to-head advantage, including a sweep of Xu Haohong in the group stage.
Go, which returned to the Asian Games 13 years after the 2010 edition in Guangzhou, is played in the men's individual and team events and the women's team event. Shin's 9th team is looking to win both the men's individual and team titles.
On the opposite side of the tournament, Kerze (China) 9th dan defeated Shibano Toramaru (Japan) 9th dan, while Japan's Ryo Ichiriki 9th dan defeated Yang Dingxin 9th dan to reach the semifinals.
In the men's individual event, the Asian Games will feature professional players from South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan in the semifinals.
The men's individual competition will conclude at 4 p.m. on Aug. 28. 19가이드03
