Seongnam faces suspension for striker Lee Jong-hoCheonan's Paulinho scored two goals and assisted one
Professional soccer's K League 2 Seongnam FC lost to Cheonan City and will have to wait for another chance to be promoted to K League 1.
Seongnam lost 1-3 in the 36th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 at Cheonan Stadium at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. With the loss, Seongnam failed to finish in the top five, which would have given them promotion regardless of their remaining schedule results.
Needing a win, Seongnam went on the offensive and Cheonan capitalized on it.
It was the home team that took the lead after a hard-fought match. Paulinho scored in the 45th minute, assisted by Jung Seok-hwa.
Cheonan widened the gap in the second half. In the 10th minute of the second half, Jung Seok-hwa and Paulinho teamed up again to make it 2-0.
Seongnam, in need of an equalizer, was given a red card. In the 13th minute of the second half, striker Lee Jong-ho used his elbow in a contest with an opponent. The referee sent him off after reviewing the video assistant referee (VAR).
With the numerical advantage, Cheonan extended the gap between the two teams to three goals in the 32nd minute of the second half through Motta. Paulinho, who was on a two-goal haul, didn't get greedy and passed to Motta in a more perfect opportunity to add an assist.
Just like in Cheonan's first win in the K League 2, against Seongnam in Round 23, Paulinho also had a strong performance with two goals and one assist.
Seongnam then pulled within 1-3 with a late goal from Yang Tae-yang in the 39th minute, but were outnumbered and ran out of time and had to settle for a point.
With the loss, Seongnam's chances of promotion to the K League 2 will have to wait until next season. With the win, Cheonan moved ahead of Ansan Greeners, who have played one game less. 토토사이트
