'Mr. Actover' Reggie Jackson surpasses the 18-homer mark
One-hit wonder Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia Phillies) has set a new record for most home runs by a left-handed hitter in a Major League Baseball postseason.
Schwarber did it in Game 4 of the 2023 Major League Baseball National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on April 21.
Leading off the fourth inning with his team down 0-2, Schwarber battled Arizona reliever Kyle Nelson for a full count before taking a seven-pitch, 91.3-mph (147-kilometer) four-seam fastball. The pitch was a solo arch over the right-center field fence.
It was Schwarber's fourth home run of the fall and his 19th of the postseason.
With the blast, Schwarber broke the record for most home runs by a left-handed hitter in the big league postseason. The previous record was 18 homers by Reggie "Mr. Oktober" Jackson.
Jackson is a legendary hitter who earned the nickname "Mr. Oktober" for his stellar performance in the postseason each year. Schwarber has surpassed him with a blistering home run barrage.
"Schwarber has 19 homers in 243 at-bats," MLBcom noted, "compared to Jackson, 카지노사이트랭크 who needed 318 plate appearances to hit 18."
Schwarber, who broke into the big leagues in 2015, has sent 47 balls over the fence this season, surpassing last year's 46 homers for the most in a single season.
However, his batting average this season is just .197, less than two percent above average. Schwarber is the first player in major league history to hit more than 40 home runs with a batting average in the teens.
He's not the most accurate hitter, but when he gets it right, it goes over the fence and keeps opposing pitchers on their toes.
Schwarber's batting average is still hovering in the low double digits through 10 games this postseason, but he already has four home runs.
Meanwhile, the all-time major league postseason home run record is 29 by right-handed hitter Manny Ramirez. 고스톱
