American Star is a superb character study that delves deeply into introspection, thanks to its breathtaking setting, intricate storyline, and Ian McShane's skillful restraint. A more appropriate and emotionally impactful resolution is compromised by a few predictable scenes and an extraneous character, but overall, the insightful plot improves the fascinating experience of analysing our life choices. The main premise of the film is the assassin's last operation in Fuerteventura, where he needs to kill a man he has never met before. But as he approaches his goal, for no apparent reason, he finds himself drawn to the island, its residents, and a haunting shipwreck.
